Making The Most Of Summer Birthdays (Even If It’s An Un-Birthday)
As a winter baby, I never had to experience the disappointment of inviting friends to a party but having them all at the cottage on the appointed day. Or of not knowing how to get in touch with them after school ended (the younger the kid, the more common the problem). It was never so hot no one wanted to play the carefully planned games. Or even eat the cake with the icing melting off.
Then again, I’ve never had a pool party on my birthday. I was never much of an outdoor-enthusiast (my parents will attest to that). That meant all of my parties revolved around indoor activities. And as none of my siblings had summer birthdays, we never had a wild and crazy party with kids running around outside like lunatics.
None of my kids were born in the summer either. But I’m thinking that this year, for something fun, we might host a summer party for them. Games, food, prizes, loot bags even…just so that we can party in the summer.
Maybe we’ll plan it to coincide with my husband’s July birthday. You’re never too old to run through the sprinkler on your birthday, right?
